<開始在紐約聽音樂，Live House介紹>

08年到紐約後我開始到處聽音樂，這四年下來我看了很多場表演。

不知不覺我從未滿21歲開始聽live (以前總要跟別人借ID去聽21+的場子)，也聽到了終於可以正大光明的用自己的ID領wirstband的時候了。從Manhattan到Brooklyn，從Midtown到Downtown，從Upper West Side到Lower East Side，我去過無數間live house。

最近因為開始寫網誌，我稍微整理了一下這些live house的資訊，希望對同樣喜歡聽音樂，或是想去紐約的live house一探究竟的人有幫助！

像是內部更漂亮、音響設備更好的國際會議中心。場地的設計很好，就算坐在最高的頂樓區也看得很清楚。

Bowery Ballroom

紐約最知名的live house，非常棒的場地，音響設備非常好。一進門會先進入lounge區，穿過右邊的小門往上走才會到表演區。建築內部挑高，有兩層樓，是個可以容納近千人的表演廳。一樓全為站席，二樓有一些桌椅。舞台很大，挑高，所以後方也可以看得很清楚。

上次CMJ台灣之夜熊寶貝、1976和Echo就是在這裡表演的。沒有座位區，皆為站席。一進門是lounge，更往裡頭走才會進入表演場地。整體空間並不大，舞台也沒有挑高，但優點是觀眾席與舞台距離很近，可以很清楚的觀賞表演。

紐約老字號的表演廳，有許多大牌都曾在此表演過。舞台在二樓，場地很大，內部挑高，沒有坐位，全為站席，場內除了飲料及啤酒外，另有販售零食。

Joe’s Pub位於Public Theater的左側。內部空間很大，舞台前方是座位區，座位區有$12低消或是要點兩杯飲料的限制。如果不想花錢坐下來吃東西，可以選擇站在左後方的吧檯區，吧檯區則沒有要點飲料的限制。去年底暫時關閉進行內部維修，再開幕後我還沒進去過，不過聽說舞台重新設計過，等不及再訪。

Knitting Factory

大小和The Wall差不多，舞台挑高，不管站在場內哪裡都看得很清楚，設備很好，特別是舞台燈光打得實在很棒。

看完表演可以去對面的Momofuku吃一下餅乾和喝咖啡

Madison Square Garden

就…麥迪遜花園廣場XD 雖然看演唱會的時候台上的表演者都跟米粒一樣小，但是硬體設備很好，聲音出來的很完整，萬人一起看演唱會的感覺很棒，是個比小巨蛋硬體好一萬倍的室內體育館。

大小與小河岸差不多，舞台兩旁有兩排板凳可以坐。每天晚上七點開始有表演，一晚通常排3到4組表演 (票價依表演者而定)。優點是可以站得離表演者很近，缺點是入口的走廊很窄，表演結束後常常交通堵塞，還有廁所只有兩間。

場地大小和Legacy差不多，挑高又空曠，聽表演起來很舒服。有兩層樓，二樓在舞台的兩側設有一些坐位。吧檯區有設置轉播舞台表演的電視，所以就算站在外頭也可以欣賞表演。舞台很大，我想塞10人樂團都沒問題。

場地像是小河岸留言，每天有好幾組歌手/樂團表演，有些表演要門票，有些則是免費，可以上網事先查詢當天的表演者以及票價。除了飲料之外，也有販賣吃的。

Radio City Music Hall

除了聖誕節的Christmas Spectacular以及太陽馬戲團的表演外，無線電城也常常舉行演唱會，場地內部非常漂亮，位子很舒服，還有冷氣很冷。

Rockwood隔成兩間(two stages)，Stage one是左邊那間，Stage two是右邊那間。Stage two有兩層樓，空間比Stage one大。兩間表演廳在舞台前方都有設有坐位區，但是位子很少。Rockwood每天有4-5個sets的表演 (表演名單可以從網站上查詢)，入場不用門票，但有低消飲料一杯的限制，服務生會在觀眾中走來走去幫忙點飲料。因為場地很小，與表演者的距離很近，看什麼都很清楚 (不過有時候一直和表演者對到眼也蠻尷尬的，哈哈)。

雖然是在50幾街，但是它在非常偏遠的11Ave附近(我第一次去下錯站走到快要抓狂了！)。場地非常大，舞台挑高，就算站在後面依舊看得清楚，有點像是南港展覽館，可以容納好幾千人 (散場的時候也是相當可怕)。

The Living Room

門票：無，低消一杯飲料

The Living Room每天都有好幾個set，由不同的歌手或是樂團輪流(表演名單可以在網站上查到)。設有座位，入場不用門票，但有低消一杯飲料的限制(酒精、非酒精都可)。不過有時候有些表演要預先購票，建議出發前先上網查詢。表演途中工作人員會傳遞小費箱，小費箱裡面收到的錢是給表演者的。優點是在裡頭聽音樂很舒服也很自在，想離開的時候隨時都可以離開，真的就像在自己家客廳一般。缺點是整家店只有兩間廁所，表演結束後常常大排長龍。

然後我要推一下Ludlow路口的Il Laboratorio del Gelato，好好吃！

Webster Hall

很多人只知道Webster Hall是個nightclub，但它其實也是一個很棒的看演唱會的場地，二樓的演唱會場地可以容納1200多人。沒有坐位，皆為站席。而且因為舞台夠大，背板也可以放進去，演唱會看起來更有感覺。大家一起跳的時候感覺整間樓都在晃動，過癮！

紐約實在有太多聽表演的地方了，我上列的幾家只是冰山一角而已。我準備繼續探索更多的live house，之後若有去了其它間，會再補上相關資訊。

紐約的Live House等級非常高，每一間都是品質保證，燈光、音箱、硬體設備什麼的都是一流的，有機會請一定要去體驗一下！

Naia Kete，打從她在The Voice的初登場我就愛上她了。印象很深刻的表演，把Bruno Mars的"The Lazy Song"改成了雷鬼風，配合她獨一無二的聲音，實在唱得太好了。

她一直是我在The Voice裡很支持的選手，每一周我都在注意她的表現。Naia的特色很鮮明，個性和音樂都是，長至腰際的辮子頭、總是帶著微笑的臉龐、溫柔卻又可以唱出撕裂音的嗓子，還有節奏強烈的雷鬼音樂。每一首歌Naia都可以唱出自己的味道，讓他們都變成屬於自己的歌。雖然她最終沒有成為節目的冠軍，我認為她一定是顆明日之星。

(順帶一提，The Voice是個很好看的音樂選秀節目，我是忠實觀眾。剛結束的第二季裡面有幾個參賽者我認為以後一定大有前途，很期待他們未來的表現。)

沒想到節目才剛結束，可以親耳聽她現場的機會就到了。Naia這次帶著她的樂團從西岸飛來東岸巡迴演唱，我當然不可能錯過這個機會。

她的現場很棒！

Naia的聲音非常好聽，溫暖又慵懶，溫柔的雷鬼。她很有特色，我好像還沒有找到誰和她的歌路是相似的。

我想應該是平常都在街頭表演的關係，她的台風很穩，面對擠滿人的台下一點也不緊張。Naia巡迴帶的是自己的三人樂團 (節奏樂器上的是弟弟，Bass手是長得很像強尼戴普的男友)，三個人的默契十足，整場表演都相當流暢。我對Naia的弟弟在用的那個很像音箱的樂器很感興趣，我知道他是打擊樂器(percussion)的一種，卻不知道它到底叫做什麼名字，它是個很費力、很需要功夫的樂器，他能這麼成熟的駕馭它，實在很厲害。

聽Naia唱歌是種享受，她唱出的每一個音符都是美好的。也因為她，我第一次這麼放鬆的聽雷鬼音樂，這種音樂的魔力在於聽的時候身體會不自覺的隨著旋律搖擺，很舒服。

當晚的live，她唱的大多數是自己的創作。Naia很有才華，她創作的主題很多元，有關於愛、關於自我、關於社會、關於世界，她每一首歌裡的訊息我都從她的音樂裡接收到了。

幾首我有印象的歌曲包括"Butterflies"、"Sweet Surprise"、"Happy"、"Beauty"、"Ain't Solved Nothing"、"Prisoner"和"Yo-yo Love"。

我特別喜歡"Beauty"，她說這是一首很私人的歌，寫出來的是心底最真實的聲音；很美的一首歌。

而我也很喜歡另一首叫做"Ain't Solved Nothing"的歌曲，是一首激昂的歌曲，寫的是戰爭，訊息是反戰。

這次的表演，她cover了一首最近很紅的歌，前奏 bass聲一下我就猜到是什麼歌了！是Gotye的"Somebody I Used to Know"！！！！Naia的版本很特別，我忍不住錄了下來。

之後，Naia又唱了一首cover，是Oasis的"Wonderwall"，獻給前陣子剛過世的外公。她說，有很多歌是自己剛聽到的時候就知道會很喜歡，然後經歷過一些事情之後，有一些歌曲突然間對自己就有了不同的意義。對她來說，"Wonderwall"就是這麼樣的一首歌。

我從來沒有聽"Wonderwall"聽到哭，但是這次聽Naia唱這首我已經聽過上百遍的綠洲經典，我竟然紅了眼眶，她唱得非常動人。

穿著長裙、批著披肩、踩著夾腳拖鞋，Naia上台表演穿得輕鬆。她的聲音、她的長相和她在台上表演投入的樣子，我覺得她很性感。

她的歌聲、她的音樂有著十足的生命力，我才感受到，原來雷鬼音樂也可以有著這麼多的能量，每一首歌都好聽。

演唱會結束後，我留下來和Naia說到了話 (還偷偷抱了她一下，哈哈)，我喜歡她的音樂也很喜歡她的人，她是個非常平易近人的女孩，人非常好 (用英文形容的話就是very down to earth)，她的人就跟她的聲音一樣溫暖。

看過live之後更加地喜歡她，陪我一起去的兩個朋友也很喜歡她。很期待再度看到她的表演以及她以後的表現！又認識了一個好聲音，真好！

Naia Kete, a voice that I immediately felt in love with when I first heard of her from The Voice; she did a beautiful cover of "The Lazy Song." She was one of my favorite contestants throughout the whole competition. I cheered for her each week and I loved her more and more. Although she didn't become "The Voice" in the end, I knew she was born to be a star.

I was excited about Naia's show at the Mercury Lounge. After all, listening in live is not the same as listening from TV. My ears were ready to be blown away.

Naia toured with her band, a lovely trio. I had much fun watching the dynamics among the three when they were on the stage. Their performance had so much energy.

Naia has an unique voice, warm, tender but strong. She played a lot of her originals for the set, including  "Butterflies," "Sweet Surprise," "Happy," "Beauty," "Ain't Solved Nothing, ""Prisoner" and "Yo-yo Love." I enjoyed them all. Her music is direct and honest, and each of them has a message.

She did two covers that night; an amazing version of Gotye's "Somebody I Used to Know" and "Wonderwall," an Oasis classic that was dedicated to her Grandfather. I was very moved by her performance of singing "Wonderwall,"  for the first time, I had tears in my eyes when I listened to this song.

It was a beautiful night, full of beautiful songs and beautiful people.

Naia Kete, in my heart, she is the voice.

05.21.12 Henry Wolfe @ Mercury Lounge

這次我第四次聽Henry Wolfe唱歌。


第一次聽到他的聲音是因為"Julie and Julia" (美味關係)，當時看完這部電影，我深深的被裡頭一首叫做"Stop The Train"的電影配樂吸引。那首歌不管是旋律、歌詞還是那個男歌手的歌聲我都很喜歡。買了OST後才知道唱這首歌的人叫做Henry Wolfe，對當時的我來說是個從來沒有聽過的新名字。

後來我在youtube上找了他的好多作品來聽，越聽越喜歡，他的創作完全就是我的菜，我也找到了我最喜歡的"All Things Good"

之後只要他有從LA來NY表演，我幾乎都會報到 (印象深刻的是他去年發片首唱結束後，我在排隊等簽名的隊伍裡還遇到了我很喜愛的一個樂團的主唱April Smith！) 我從他還沒發專輯到去年發行了個人的首張專輯就開始聽他的live，他的每一次的表演都比前一次更進步。

首張專輯<Linda Vista>的主打歌"Someone Else"很值得一聽。

(我想Henry Wolfe天生就是要當個表演者的，很久之後我才知道，原來他是演員Meryl Streep和藝術家Don Gummer的兒子，難怪這麼有藝術細胞。他還有兩個長得非常美麗的妹妹，兩個人現在都在當演員，真是才華洋溢的一家人！)

一把吉他和一支口琴，Henry Wolfe表演的標準配備，像極了Neil Young。

他每次在台上找口琴的模樣總是讓我想起曾經看過一段Neil Young在台上唱Heart of Gold前慌張找口琴的影片，有點糗，哈。我相信Neil Young的音樂對他的影響一定很大，從他在自己的首張專輯裡cover了"For The Turnstiles"以及表演當晚唱了"Crime in The City"就可以知道他有多麼喜愛Uncle Neil。音樂很美好，因為它的影響力是跨世代的，一代一代的傳下來，總是有人會被感動。

當天的表演是full band的編制，開場曲是首張專輯的同名歌曲"Linda Vista"，專輯裡唯一的一首純音樂演奏曲，是一首很輕鬆但充滿神祕感的歌曲，我覺得它很適合晚上聽。

第二首緊接著來的就是"Stop The Train"，我聽得如癡如醉，真的很喜歡這首歌！

再來是一首新歌"Rose Parade" (名字聽起來好夢幻)，Mercury Lounge的表演是首唱，我覺得相當好聽，又是一首註有HW商標的歌曲。

一個半小時左右的表演，還有三首歌一定要提，第一首就是前面提過他翻唱的"Crime in The City"，其實我很驚訝他會挑這首歌來唱，和原唱完全不一樣的味道，也是非常好聽的一個版本，許多在台下的觀眾都跳起舞來了呢。第二首歌是專輯裡我很喜歡的"Open The Door"，是一首聽的很舒服，感覺很有故事性的歌曲。我第一次聽到live的時候就很喜歡了，已經很習慣每次聽live都會聽到它，因為它每次都會出現在歌單上面。最後一首則是"Someone Else"，專輯主打歌，這首歌絕對要聽現場版才可以感受到它的美和俏皮之處，我喜歡看他跟樂手們玩這首歌玩得很開心的樣子。

好可惜這次沒有排"All Things Good"進歌單，不然我已經相當完美的晚上會更加完美。

Henry Wolfe不太會說話，但是他一開口唱歌就可以征服所有人。他的歌聲常常像呢喃，很輕、很柔，很好聽。他的表演很好看，口琴和吉他都是他的武器。在他的表演裡可以嚐到被音樂完全包圍的滋味。

這幾年下來東西岸的巡迴讓他有了一大批忠心的聽眾，Mercury Lounge的空間並不大，但當天的表演卻擠滿了人，大家都是特地來看Henry Wolfe。喔對了，我也在入場的時候見到了那個大明星(聽他兒子表演四次，見到她三次！)。

一年後再聽Henry Wolfe的現場，當年第一次聽到"Stop the Train"的感動依舊還在。"Linda Vista"已經發行一年多了，希望第二張專輯可以快點問世。

My fourth Henry Wolfe show in NY, still amazing!

The only two things that Henry Wolfe needs in order to rule the stage is just one guitar and one harmonica.They are his basic equipment and his best friends; they are what makes his music so unique, so Henry Wolfe. (Every time he checks to make sure he has the right harmonica in hand always reminds me of a footage I saw of Neil Young trying to find but couldn't find the correct harmonica before playing "Heart of Gold" one time, haha)
 
The root of his music is personal liberation, and each of his song is like a story. I enjoyed the music and the stories. In the one and an half hour show,  I heard some old tunes, and some new. He opened up the night with "Linda Vista," a beautiful piece of music from his first LP <Linda Vista>. (I find this song very mysterious for somehow). I was very pleased to hear "Stop the Train" and "Open The Door," two of my favorite songs from the first album. And I was very surprised to hear "Crime in The City," what a great pick for the night! Quite different, but just as good as the original. He ended the night with "Go Ask Eve," I was kind of sad that "All Things Good" didn't make it to the set list this time.

He is not very good at public speaking, but when it comes to singing in the public, he is unbeatable. In Henry Wolfe's live shows, you understand how it feels like to be surrounded by music thoroughly. So enjoyable, and so much fun.

Beautiful music, beautiful night. I cannot wait to see his performance again in the near future.

I have been a big fan of yours, really love your music.The last time I saw you was at Joe's Pub, when Linda Vista just came out, and April Smith was in line, too. (I still remembered that show where you and April's band played together, fun time)

I just started the blog, so there is really nothing fancy, but I do want people and artists to know that I'm putting effort to introduce great talents and great music to the Chinese speaking world, and of course you are on the "must to be introduced" list (consider overseas tours in the future maybe? haha). 

I enjoyed the new song, and cannot wait for the second album. Hope to see you play again soon, and hopefully next time when I say hi to you, you will recognize me with "the Taiwanese girl that writes the blog."
